	Hobby Master 1:72 scale diecast HA3537: McDonnell Douglas CF-18 Hornet serial 188761 of 409 Sqn, Canadian Air Force Nightmare 01, CFB Cold Lake, Canada, 2006 Length 9.25" Width 6.25" CF-18A Hornet 188761 was delivered on April 10, 1986 and operated with the No. 439 Squadron in Europe. In 1987 the aircraft suffered damage but was repaired and returned to service. In 1995 188761 returned to Canada with the No. 441 TFS at CFB Cold Lake. In 2004 the aircraft was again damaged and returned to service. On July 6, 2006 No. 416 and No. 441 TFSs consolidated forming the No. 409 Nighthawk Squadron and 188761 received a special No. 409 Squadron scheme, "Night Mare 01" to commemorate the occasion. Designed as a replacement for the A-4 Skyhawk and the A-7 Corsair II and as a complement to the F-14 Tomcat, the F/A-18 first flew on November 18, 1978. Perhaps best known as the aircraft of the US Navy's Blue Angels, this carrier-capable, supersonic, all-weather fighter has many roles, including fighter escort, fleet air defense and close air support. The F/A-18 is a versatile aircraft: it can operate from carriers or land bases and a single switch converts it from fighter to strike mode. During Operation Desert Storm, the F/A-18 proved that, on a single mission, one aircraft could serve as both fighter and a bomber.
